What would the founders think?
Bro. Juan Woods
Gamma Iota, Wayne State Detroit, Mi
Xi Beta Sigma, Detroit

What would our founders of all Greek Organizations think if they saw us today?
Would they be proud or would they shake their head in dismay?
Would they see the principles they believed in our daily walk Or would they be disappointed in the trash we talk?

Would they look from above with a smile on their face Or would they be looking down in shame and disgrace?
Would they see that sisterhood & brotherhood was still within us Or would they see backstabbing, fighting, and all kinds of fuss?

Would they see us willingly accepting all correction Or would they see us always mounting an objection?
Would they see us loving our Greek lettered sisters and brothers, Saying no matter what color they wear we must stand for each other!
Would they see that service was still number one Or would they see it was replaced by the need to have fun?
Would they see you stepping with pride on Friday night And then up early on Saturday to help the homeless plight Or would Saturday morning meet you snuggled in bed, While the need is ignored and our community unfed?
Would they see that scholarship was still our priority Or are we more concerned with pledging the cool sorority or fraternity?
Would they look at you pledge and be filled with memories Or would they gasp in horror as you twist their history?
Would they see us graduating at the top of our class Or are we barely scraping by with just enough to pass?
So I ask you, my generation, what will our legacy be.
Will we be the ones to bring our organization to its knees?
Will we sit idly by and watch our legacy ripped from our hearts Or will we stand up and say that its time we do our parts?
Will I see you on the front row at our next business meeting?
Are you financial, active, and ready to have delegate seating?
Imagine what could happen if collegiates took their rightful place?
Would the founders then look down on us with a smile on their face?

Imagine if we remember our founding principles and the oath we said And keep it ever close to us in our hearts and in our heads!
I think that then the founders would look down, their hearts about to bust As they said to each other,"Hey, don't they remind you of Us?"
So the next time you put on your letters, before you move or blink, With every action, look up, and wonder...

"What would the FOUNDERS think?"

THE ZETA ROSE
Soror Tracey Brown
Mu Epsilon Chapter, Univ. of Florida

There is a rose that grows amongst the weeds
Her petals soft and supple, leaves untorn
And though she finds her place beneath the breeze
Cool dew drops rest upon her dullen thorns.

And when the rain beats down upon her brow
Her continence is still, though patience worn
Beyond she remains tall and stands tall now
When grass is brown and fertile soil forlorn.

When stem is bent from years upon her back
Her fragrance never emanates more sweet
And though her petals start to fade and crack
She remains tall, proud, beautiful, complete.

Though the cycle of her years draws to a close
Without grande acknowledgment of her struggled thriving,
The meager presence of this single rose
Has been victorious, simply by surviving.

Do you take this white rose to be your lovely symbol of...? I do. I know pronounce you...
Song:"This very special Zeta will be---This very special sorority for me--

LIKE A DOVE...

My heart pondered and tried to find
The three letters of what a true woman could be defined
With a fervent heart I prayed
But my mind became agitated with ambiguous thoughts often delayed
An answer came like a rushing mighy wind
And released voices I dared not to defend
I searched and searched only to see
That Zeta Phi Beta was just for me
The service, the deeds
the scholarship, all others please take heed
It was indeed,
This seed
That fertilized my aspirations
So I made reservations
I paused for a moment, and thought to myself,FINER WOMANHOOD
I did partake and things did work together for the good
And by all means I had to do what was right
So I joined the beautiful family of ROYAL BLUE and PURE WHITE
The judge asked me to take a stand
And she said how do you plead
I threw up my hands,
And politely said, the Lord is my shepard and He knows what I need
My hands began to soar like wings of an eagle
And like a dove I began to fly
And a dove I'll be until the day I DIE

Thoughts Of Sigma

By Brother M. T. Glover, Jr.

Faded memories reserved in our past
Brotherhood, scholarship and service - laurels that last
1914 commenced the journey of our band
Howard University, the place where it began
To yet another level this fraternity must go
Morse, Taylor and Brown dreamed it, so let it be so
Royal blue and white the colors so great
Personify the image reverberate the state
Amplify the cause that speeds on it's way
Etched in the purpose portrayed each day
From Cresecent to Sigma the sands we've crossed
Ideals, ideas, visions and dreams are not to be lost
If you love Sigma like you say that you do
Say it! Mean it! And find your heart true!

AS I WALKED DOWN THE STREET

As I walked down the street,
An old man I do meet
With worn out, rugged ol' clothes.
When he asked for some change,
I just walked out of range
And continued along down the road.

The next day, I declare,
The man is still there.
He asked then for a penny or dime.
I just looked at him funny
And neglected him money.
Then flicked him off with a sign.

The next week, I do say,
As I walked down the way,
The same man I saw, begs on his knees.
He begged, "Do a good deed.
I've got mouths to feed!"
I said, "Don't touch my arm!" and "Oh, please!"

The next month when I saw,
As I looked on with awe,
The old man was gone from his place.
He must have passed on.
Oh, what a sad song!
What a waste on the whole human race.

The next year, do you hear,
Came my greatest fear:
Lost job, no dough, and no home.
No family to call;
I've no one at all.
I'm stuck in this hole all alone.

Two years have gone by.
On the streets, I survive.
This old man came then by my way.
His attire a sight
And his face shining bright
He leaned over and this what he say:

"I know you, young man.
You brushed off my hand
When I was at the place that you kneel.
You wouldn't give me a dime.
You walked by every time.
Now, alas! How does it feel?

"But I'm not going to do
The same thing that you do."
Then he looked me straight in the face.
He gave me a 10
And a 20 and then
Continued on with his pace.

I looked back on the days,
Weeks, months, years, I say
As I clutched the green in my hand.
A true brother indeed
Then I rose to my knees
"He must have been a Sigma man!"

Five Pearls of Wisdom

By Soror Calandra Stacey Jefferson-Anderson

Preface

I bring you greetings from Mississippi Valley State University's Psi Gamma Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. I am very glad to see the the work that you are doing in the blue and white world. I thought that it wuld be best to show my support by making a submission to your website.

In the past fall semester, our chapter chose to dedicate all of our homecoming activities to the memories of our five beautiful pearls. From the sidewalk competition to the greek show competition, our themes embodied a dedication spirit to the legacy that they left behind. We relocated our sidewalk on campus and had a dedication service there.

At the service, we read a poem in our founders memory. I would like to submit this original poem by myself in the name of Psi Gamma. It is as follows:

Five Pearls of Wisdom

(Dedicated to the memory of the founders of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.)

There were five unique women
Who started the journey down this road
On the shoulders of those five women
Bore Zeta's first heavy load
Not once did they waiver
Or ever turn around
They taught us that a true lady of Zeta
Always stands her ground<>

No matter the odds, no matter the tests
Those special women taught us
To always put forth our best

Zeta was something inside
That they truly loved
Something that they knew
They would always be proud of

Now every Zeta must strive
To live the lives that they showed
For the things that they knew
We now know

Like the sky shall always be Blue
The Pearly Gates shall always be White
And when I like my Pearls
Close my dying eyes to darkness
I shall not fear
For they help to lead me down the path
Of God that is right
I have been led by the knowledge
Of the Zeta Light

I will not stand before my maker
Hanging my head down in shame
Because I know five Zetas in Heaven
Made sure that he would be proud
To sign my name

ROYAL QUEENS

To my Royal Queens of Zeta Phi Beta.
It was with love in our hearts that we, your true blue brothers,
watched you grow into your grand and majestic state.
Our bond is one of love and commitment.
Joined hand in hand, constitutionally bound,
Till the very end, a bond even harder than cement.
Like the stars in the sky, our dedication to you will be a
constant source of strength to you.
Always know that when you see a Sigma Man you have a friend
and that friend will always be true.
As your Five Pearls shine as bright as the northern stars
Know that the Blue and White Family shall exist always in our
hearts.
For you my Royal Queens of the Blue and White,
A kiss to seal our family tie.

With Love,

A Calling

by Brother Shawn Beckett

Alpha Mu Alpha Chapter, Swarthmore College

Out of the shadows came a flash of light
It was bright true blue and the purist of white
A voice came from the light and beckoned me
Three men appeared and said to me
Come forward young man, you have a mission to do
Start something fresh, start something new
Something that would provide Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service
We want you to come and join us, no need to be nervous
You are needed to Service your community
To bring back peace, love, and unity
Embrace your brother and give him leadership
Show him the importance of Brotherhood and Scholarship
Our communities need leaders like you...you see!
Models who children could strive to be
And tell them that life is not always about money
but that LIFE could just be
Culture for Service and Service for HUMANITY

This is a poem I wrote which helps to remind me why I have joined this
GREAT organization. I hope other brothers and sisters can realize why
they are called to join these organizations and realize that we are here
to serve our communities as leaders and lead our people into the next
millenium with strength and hope for a better tomorrow. I am going to
get off my soap box and wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season
and ask that we remember to always keep it true so the the world can
remain BLUE!!!!!!!!!!

I've been Blue for many years
and it's a feeling to embrace,
with my head held high in these blue skies
filled with Zeta pride and grace;

We in this great Blue Family
have elite members quite diverse,
giving credit to our love so true
as we inhabit this universe!

Zeta Phi Beta Sigma Blue and White

it's an unmitigated fact,
we're so more than "something else"
no, baby, We're ALL THAT!

FINER WOMANHOOD

Strong, not masculine

Feminine, not sadity

Aggressive, not abrasive

Beautiful, not vain

Outspoken, but Refined

Outgoing, but Sophisticated

Loved and Envied

Respected and Admired

Finer Womanhood is not for others to understand, it is for us to possess.

What makes us.. The Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta

WHY ARE WE AT REST?

What's going on with my people,
Why do we continue to be oppressed?
Now that we have the power to make changes,
Tell me, Why are we at rest!
It seems like a twisted theory,
for the lives we choose to live.
Where everyone wants to take and take,
and no one wants to give.
Why did our ancestors struggle and die,
For us to sit back and relax?
Why did your parents send you to college,
if you're never gonna pass.
Wake up and realize,
that the world is yours to possess.
The future of Black America can be bright,
if you strive to past the test.
This test is not written,
in neither ink of black or blue.
This test is written in the heart of every man,
who seeks his dreams to pursue.
Life is the challenge presented to our race,
and in the end you live or die.
Because what makes and moves the integrity of our people,
is the actions of both You and I.
Just think of all of the sacrifices that were made,
so that our lives could be this way.
And now that you have thought about that,
ask "What have I sacrificed today?"
Think about the opportunities you have,
and then realize from where they come.
From the sweat, blood, tears and death,
of former Nubian sons.
Think about those sacrifices,
Sweat,Blood,Tears,and DEATH,
and now again I ask you,
Why Are We At Rest?

The Blue Hill

As I walk through the burning white sands of Sigma land,
I come to the foot of a great and majestic mountain.
It is sculpted of royal blue granite and reached heights so tall that the
clouds play atop their peaks.
I gaze in awe at the great mountain only known to the privileged few as
Mt.Sigma.
Atop that mountain's white snow capped peak sits the spirits of the great
men of Sigma.

They are dressed in robes of blue and white.
There eyes tell of the founding of the brothers of the dove.
They also tell of their founding love.
Sigma burns in there hearts as it does in mine.
Their legacies will live on until the end of time.
They give me a quest before they go back into the clouds to always up hold
the principles of brotherhood, scholarship, and service.

My Greatest Gift

If only words could describeif only I could make you see
How much my greatest gift
is so much a part of me

You were there to make me laugh
you were there to wipe my tears
You were there to pick me up
to protect me from my fears.

If you had only one breath left
to me you would give
You would gladly give your life
If the price of your death, is that I should live

Like a plie of clay
a sculptor is your role
To show me the good from the bad
my life you try to mold

If I am the Earth, in search of warmth
I need your rays, you are my sun
My life truly started
the day our lives begun

When my branches reach for the sky
the day you call me grown
Have no fear, my roots are strong
I will never be alone.

There will come a time
there will come a day
when I am ripe
someone will pluck me away

When I hit life's obstacles
when I run into a wall
You've taught me to continue to climb
you will catch me if I fall

I place you on the highest shelf
A trophy for all to see
To them you are just a organization
but you are the Greatest Gift to Me....

Poets note* I became a part of the GREATEST SORORITY IN THE SPRING OF 1991.. since then Zeta has enriched my life.... I just wanted to pay tribute to something that is so true to and in my HEART... THE BEAT OF MY HEART IS CRYING Z-PHI-B.... EVERYBODY KNOWS ITS THE BEST SORORITY....

 ALWAYS KEEPING IT BLUE,
